The Happy School project is committed to offering employment opportunities, support and training to local staff. ‘The community running its own project’ is one of the fundamental principles behind the school. The Happy School is managed by a local Khmer School Director, Leang Bunleap. If you are interested in reading our Directors quarterly reports, please contact us here.
Day to day operation of the school is provided by Leang and the dedicated staff consisting of a head teacher and senior teacher, a part time Finance and Admin Officer, a part time Khmer Dancing teacher, a part time English teacher, 2 drivers/guards and regular visits from experienced foreign volunteers who run English and recreational programs. The Happy School also has a relationship with the University of Pannãsãstra in Phnom Penh, which sees a group of students volunteering annually at the school to develop the Khmer literacy skills of Happy School students.
The volunteers working at The Happy School are committed to a project that supports the rights declared in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The project principles are those of community development – to work with local people in a culturally aware manner and to provide a sustainable, self-managed resource for the local community.
