The Happy School project is committed to offering employment opportunities, support and training to local staff: ‘the community running it’s own project’ is one of the fundamental principles behind the school. The Happy School project is managed by a local Khmer School Director, Chi Phalla. If you are interested in reading Phalla’s quarterly reports, please contact Kirk Gibson.
Day to day operation of the school is provided by a dedicated retired government school teacher called Men Sovann. He is supported by one other full time teacher, a part time English teacher, 2 drivers/guards and a stream of experienced foreign volunteers running English, recreational and specialised art programs.
The volunteers working at The Happy School are committed to a project that supports the rights declared in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The project principles are those of community development - to work with local people in a culturally aware manner and to provide a sustainable, self-managed resource for the local community.
